We were proud to be part of one of Coventry’s most beloved and colourful annual celebrations — Dame Goodyver’s Daye, organised by Coventry’s very own Lady Godiva, Pru Porretta, and the Godiva Sisters.
Dame Goodyver’s Daye is a unique Coventry tradition, featuring a dramatic procession through the city centre with banners, live drums, and the Godiva Sisters — women of different faiths, races and backgrounds — wearing traditional dress from their own cultures. The event was resurrected by Pru Porretta in 1999, more than 500 years after it was first celebrated on the day of Lady Godiva’s death in 1067.
The day featured traditional costumes, live music, song and dance, and food from various cultures which was blessed and shared with the crowd — a true celebration of Coventry’s diverse and vibrant communities.
We are especially proud that this year, our very own Claudia represented The Roma Project as the Roma Godiva Sister — a wonderful recognition of our community’s place within the rich tapestry of Coventry’s cultures.
We are delighted that The Roma Project was represented at this wonderful event, which reflects exactly the values we stand for — inclusion, diversity, and community. It was a beautiful reminder that Coventry is a city where every culture and every community has a place.
We look forward to being part of this special tradition again next year!
